Spring 20: Permission Set Groups in Salesforce

Source: Salesforce

With Spring 20, Permission Set Groups are available now. Permission Set Groups is a new feature that allows Admins to combine multiple permission sets into a single permission set group for user assignment. With the grouping mechanism, admins can truly apply role-based access control for managing user entitlements in Salesforce org.

Let us take a business scenario to understand it better.

Let’s say you have a salesforce org where you have two permission sets. One for Sales User and another for Support User.
There is another user like Sales-Support User, who should have both permissions.

In order to provide permissions, earlier we have to assign both the permission sets to the Sales-Support User but now with this feature, you can create a permission set group and add both the permission set in the group.

Now in the future if you introduce a new permission set and if the admins have to have this permission set also assigned, then instead of searching each user and assign a new permission set, you can add the permission set in the group.

This will help in managing the org more efficiently as the permission set count increases with time.

In order to create a permission set group:-

Step 1 - Go to setup –> search for Permission set group –> click on new permission set group.

Step 2 - Click on the button New Permission Set Group to create a new Permission set group.

Step 3 - Click Permission Sets in Group under the Permission Sets section.

Step 4 - Click on Add Permission Set and add the permission sets you to want to add in the group.
